Digital Skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)
The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) is here with us and we must all be prepared to embrace it. One of its key requirements is digital skills that opens the door to participate and take advantage of this advanced technological era. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Software Engineering, Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality (VR), and a host of new and emerging technologies are shaping our world. International Finance Corporation (IFC) in its 2019 Digital skills report with spotlight on Ghana noted that; Technological advancement promises disruption across sectors, requiring more complex skills and retraining of the workforce. The importance of digital skills has been recognized, often as a new literacy alongside reading, writing, and math. However, there has been less pragmatic focus on Digital skills development and the best models that can be used to bridge the gap. The Institute of ICT professionals Ghana (IIPGH) which is a professional association of experts and businesses in the ICT industry in Ghana identified this skills gap and has mobilized experts to support students, professionals and organizations in emerging technology. The institute is involved in ICT related curriculum design for schools; training of students and professionals in Basic, intermediate and advanced digital skills.
