IIPGH 3rd Weekend Coding Graduation

The IIPGH third batch of coding students at the Educase Literacy Consult had their graduation on the 9th of March, 2019 at Ogbojo – East Legon. All the students submitted their project works and explained what they had been able to program at the end of their program to their parents, IIPGH team and their tutors present. The students worked on individual projects and developed websites for different types of services; some developed real estate business websites, travel & tour website, car trading website, personal blogs and games using the MIS Scratch app.

The students confessed that they had some challenges in putting up the complete project websites but that was what actually brought out the fun in what they did. Their project works are complete because some of them had to continue coding very late into the night when their parents thought they were sleeping. “At one point, I fell asleep behind the laptop as I was coding. My dad came to wake me up around 10pm to go and sleep on my bed but right after he left, I just went to sit behind the laptop again”, said Edem, one of the students that just completed stage 2 of the IIPGH coding program. And in all, they said they really loved all the new things being taught and would want to continue until they become experts.

There was also a short presentation by Maame Awinador, a rep from Coderina. Coderina is well known in Africa for the advancement of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education. Maame presented on the First Lego League (FLL), a program that IIPGH seeks to introduce to its students through partnership with Coderina. The FLL Introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO®-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society. Expect more information on this in the coming days.

The recent coding graduation concludes the 3rd session of the IIPGH coding program at Educase Literacy Consult, our partnered center in Ogbojo – East Legon. The 3rd batch of students started their class on the 17th of November, 2018 but went on a very long break on the 1st of December 2018 as most of our students were preparing for their end of term exams. This long break resumed on the 19of January, 2019. The next batch of the coding class at Educase is scheduled to start on the 4 of May, 2019.
