Accra, Ghana – February 21, 2025 – The Board and Management of the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH) paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, in Accra to congratulate him on his appointment and discuss areas of potential collaborations aimed at advancing the ICT profession in Ghana.

During the meeting, the delegation stressed the importance of the Legislative Instrument (LI) for a Chartered Institute of ICT Professionals emphasizing how the LI would formalize and regulate the ICT profession in Ghana to ensure standards and professionalism within the industry. The group called on the Minister to support the passage of the Legislative Instrument (LI) aimed at strengthening ICT development in the country.

IIPGH highlighted its ongoing initiatives during the meeting, including the Coding Initiatives for All Ages, which has trained over 10,000 young Ghanaians in coding since 2018.

The delegation also explored potential areas of collaboration with the Ministry to support the policy objectives of the new government. Additionally, they reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to assisting in the implementation of the 1 Million Coders Program, an initiative aimed at equipping Ghanaians with essential digital skills.

The meeting also featured discussions on the upcoming TICON Africa Conference, which is set to take place in Accra from August 20-22, 2025, under the auspices of IIPGH. This Pan-African ICT professionals conference will bring together over 600 professionals from more than 30 African countries, including marketing experts represented by the African Marketing Confederation (AMC) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG).

The Minister was formally invited to participate in this high-profile event, which aims to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among ICT and marketing professionals across the continent

In response to the agenda, Hon. Samuel Nartey George highlighted the importance of exploring the industry forum in the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Act and working with the agency. He mentioned that he has requested a review of all new policies yet to be laid in Parliament.

The Minister also called on the leadership of IIPGH to support the Ministry’s Girls-In-ICT Program, which aims to empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in ICT. This initiative, part of a global effort to bridge the gender digital gap and promote digital inclusion, has trained over 12,000 girls in basic computer skills and other ICT programs since its inception in 2012.

The IIPGH delegation, led by Board Chairman Prof. Fred McBagonluri, expressed the Institute’s willingness to support the government to implement its policies, particularly the 1 Million Coders Program.  IIPGH has since 2018 launched coding initiatives for all ages, training over 10,000 young Ghanaians in coding and equipping them with valuable digital skills. The Institute aims to foster a culture of innovation and creativity, inspiring young minds to pursue careers in technology.
